Walter A. Pierson

Walter A. Pierson, age 91, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 5:01 pm on May 13, 2010 at his Monmouth home. Walter was born on December 4, 1918 in Wadena, Minnesota and is the son of August and Anna Ramberg Pierson. He raised and attended rural schools in Wadena Minnesota. He also graduated from United Electronics in Des Moines, Iowa. He married Emily Elizabeth "Betty" Johnson on April 7, 1954 in Monmouth, Illinois. She preceded Walter in death on July 12, 1991. Walter for a number of years worked on the family dairy farm in Wadena, MN. Then he worked for the telephone company in Grand Mound and Pella, Iowa. In 1959 they moved to Monmouth where he worked in the electronics department of Gamble Skogmo for a number of years. After that Walter operated his own electronics shop in his own home. Walter is a lifetime member of Immanuel Baptist Church serving as trustee, as usher, and serving as the church sound technician and helping with youth activities. He was a faithful servant of the Lord. Walter loved music both Country and Gospel. He played the violin and guitar. Surviving him are his sister in law Arlene Johnson of Monmouth, who has been his care giver for ten years. Nieces Linda (Clint) Anderson of Breinard, MN, Doris (Don) Berg and Phyllis (Glen) Fuller both of Wadena, MN., Mary (Dave) Hietela of Owatonna, MN and Mae (Ed) Pierson of Deluth, MN. Nephews Mark (Susan) Pierson of Wadena, MN Steve (Becky) Pierson of Sebeka, MN. and numerous Grand Nieces and Nephews. He is preceded in death by his Parents and wife Betty, two brothers and his nephew Edger Pierson Services:A funeral service will be on Wednesday May 19, 2010 at 1:30 pm at the Immanuel Baptist Church of Monmouth. His family plans to receive friends at Turnbull Funeral home in Monmouth on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Interment will be in the Monmouth Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established for Immanuel Baptist Church of Monmouth, IL.
