Wayne  L. Kinkaid Profile Photo

Wayne L. Kinkaid, age 77, of Gerlaw, passed away at 9:27 p.m., Saturday, September 12, 2009, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on April 24, 1932 in Monmouth, the son of Frank Allan and Rita Lottie Niles Kinkaid. Wayne graduated from Little York High School in 1951. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Korea. Wayne married Betty J. Smith on July 3, 1952 at the Fall Creek Church in Henderson County, she survives. Wayne worked at the Smurfit Stone Container Corporation in Galesburg for 37 years, until his retirement in 1994. He also served as a volunteer fire fighter on the Alexis-Gerlaw Fire Department. Wayne was a member of the High Point Gun Club and enjoyed shooting trap. He was a life long Chicago Cubs fan and also enjoyed watching NASCAR. Most of all, Wayne enjoyed being outdoors and sitting in his lawn chair with his dog Molly, watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren play. Surviving Wayne are two daughters; Carol Devlin and Randy of Galesburg, Caren Stanley and Steve of Alliance, Nebraska, one son, James Kinkaid and Stephanie of Monmouth. One brother, Richard Kinkaid and Shirley of Rock Island, Illinois, two sisters; Sharon Anderson of Cartersville, Illinois, Lynne Devlin and Larry of Gerlaw, Illinois, and mother Rita Kinkaid of Monmouth. Also surviving are ten grandchildren; Sandy Bowles and Tom of Alpha, Illinois, Kisten Devlin of Plainfield, Illinois, Amy Garza and Richie of Alliance, Nebraska, Donald Kinkaid of Monmouth, Waylon Clark of Monmouth, Ian Stanley, Jon Stanley, and Kellan Stanley all of Alliance, Nebraska, Derrick Scott of North Carolina, Michael Parsons and Kristen Parsons both of Kewanee, Illinois. Nine great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his father and infant daughter. Services:A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. His family will be present to receive friends a hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Turnbull's. A memorial fund is being established for the Gerlaw Christian Church.
