Wendell  A Faudree Profile Photo

Wendell A. Faudree, age 87, of Kirkwood, Illinois, passed away at his home in Kirkwood, IL. on Friday evening at 8:30 pm. Wendell was born on December 13, 1925 in Macon, Missouri and is the son of Christopher T. and Florence E. Wykoff Faudree. Wendell was raised in Hannibal, Missouri and attended public schools and graduated from Hannibal High School in 1943. He then enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943 attaining the rank of Seaman 3rd class and baker 3rd class. He served at Iwo Jima where he was wounded in action and received the purple heart, the victory medal, and the Asiatic Campaign Medal. While in service he served as machine gunner and baker on the destroyer Patterson. Wendell married Violet Mae Gilbert on August 3, 1947 at the Methodist Church in Hannibal. She passed away on March 22, 1998. Wendell and Violet owned a pastry shop in Fort Madison, IA for a number of years. He then worked other bakeries in Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri. His baking career consisted of fifty-one years. He was bakery manager for twenty years at Barnes Super Value in Monmouth and retired from HyVee in Galesburg, IL in 1990. An avid golfer, Wendell won the first city golf tournament at Gibson Woods. He was proud of his one handicap and was a true sportsman. He loved to fish and hunt. Surviving are two sons Roy Faudree of Galesburg, Illinois, and Blaine (Jean) Faudree of Media, Illinois. Two daughters, Renee Spence of Kirkwood, IL and Sally (Barry) Bishop of Monmouth, Illinois. Grandchildren, Tracy (Andy) Engstrom, Bryan (Jackie) Spence, Christopher Faudree, Mandy (Christopher) Hughes, Craig (Christine) Bishop, Matthew Faudree, Jeanette Guzman, and Tisha Anderson. His special friend, Sue Scheuermann of Kirkwood, Illinois also survives, and numerous great and great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and his daughter in law, Cynthia. Services:A funeral service will be on Wednesday February 13, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Interment with military honors will be in Center Grove Cemetery in Kirkwood, Illinois His family plans visitation with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday evening at the funeral home. A memorial fund is being established for Western Illinois Animal Rescue.
