Wilbur L. "Web" Murphy, age 84, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 5:30 am on March 20, 2012 at the Monmouth Nursing Home. Web was born on April 1, 1927 in Monmouth, Illinois; and is the son of Fred J. and Minnie B. Anderson Murphy. He was raised in Monmouth where he attended local schools. Web enlisted in the Navy during World War II and served in the Philippines as cook on a flagship. After service Web returned and married Betty Lou White on September 1, 1946 in Monmouth. She preceded him in death on August 27, 1998. Wilbur first was employed at Western Stoneware in Monmouth and then went to work on the M and St.L. railroad for ten years. He then worked as electrician with Corky Evans and C & D Electric in Monmouth, and lastly was an electrician at Wells Pet Food, also in Monmouth, until he retired. He is a member and past post commander of Marion B. Fletcher Post 136 and also a member of the J.W. Clendenin Post 2301. Wilbur also was a member of the Monmouth Eagles Aerie 3478 and enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, and "beating up his grandchildren". Surviving Web at two sons, Fred (Kathy) Murphy of Marshall, MO. and Steve (Pam) Murphy of Smithshire, IL. There are three daughters, Janice Stranger of Monmouth, IL; Tonia (fiance' Jeff Ankle) Elliott of Wichita, KS; and Linda Schreck of Monmouth, IL. Fourteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren also surviving. Also surviving is one sister Harriet Pattison of Little York, IL and one brother James (Hazel) Murphy of Monmouth, IL. Preceding Wilbur in death are his parents, wife, one son Roger, three granddaughters, and six brothers and sisters. Services:A graveside service with military honors will be at 11:00 am on Friday March 23rd at the Monmouth Cemetery. His family plans visitation with the family present at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth on Friday from 9:00 to 11:00 am prior to the graveside rites. A memorial fund is established for the Wounded Warriors Fund.
