William L. Denison, age 85, of Monmouth, passed away at 12:29 p.m., Monday, July 11, 2011 at the Galesburg Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Ill. He was born on August 18, 1925 in Horse Cave, Ky., the son of Eddie and Mallie Buckingham Denison. He was reared and educated in Monmouth, and attended Monmouth High School, and later earned his G.E.D. William later studied law enforcement at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg. He was previously married to Jean F. Hastie. He served in the United States Army for twenty years working in food service. After retiring from the Army, William owned and operated a dairy farm for a time. He later became a USDA meat inspector. William enjoyed gardening, squirrel hunting, and coin collecting. He was a former member of the Warren County Auxiliary Police. William is survived by three sons; William L. Denison II of Monmouth, Steven Denison (Paige) of Seattle, Wa., and Richard Denison (Kathy) of Tomball, Tx. One daughter Denese Anderson of Nashville, Tn.. Also surviving is step daughter Patricia MacFarlane (Mack) of Salt lake City, Ut., nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two sisters; Betty Sage of Monmouth, Elaine Mason of Monmouth. One brother James Denison (Carolyn) of Ft. Madison, Ia., and two sister-in-laws; Nellie Denison of Kirkwood and Mary Denison of Monmouth. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, three brothers, and one step daughter. Services:A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 18, 2011 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment with Military Honors will be at Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth. His family will be present for one hour prior to the service at Turnbulls to receive friends. A memorial fund has been established for the Disabled American Veterans.
