William J Mejia

William Joseph Mejia, 68, of Galesburg, Illinois, passed away at 5:08 p.m. Thursday, October 8, 2026, in his home. He was born April 29, 1958 in Galesburg, the son of Frank and Shirley Ann (Wilson) Mejia. He was raised and educated in Galesburg, and later graduated from Bloomington High School.

Bill married Schelia Marie Ayers on August 13, 2021, in Galesburg and she survives.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Schelia; brothers, Rick Mejia of Galesburg and Tim Mejia of Peoria; sister, Jean Treadway of Galesburg; step-children, Galen Ayers and family of Galesburg, Desi and Curtis and family of Missouri, Ginger Ayers and boys of Galesburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bill worked for the Knox County Housing Authority for 18 years in the maintenance department until his retirement in April. He was a member of AA for over 30 years. He was an avid photographer and enjoyed traveling. He especially loved his dog Maddie.

Per Bill’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded with no services planned at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to the wishes of the family and left in the care of the funeral home.
