William C. Osborn

William C. Osborn, age 73, of Monmouth, IL; passed away at 4:02 am on May 22, 2014 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, IL. He was born on November 4, 1940 in Dixon, Illinois and is the son of Carr Carlington and Alice Marie Jacobs Osborn. He was reared and educated in Dixon, where he attended local schools and graduated from the Dixon High School. He then attended Sauk Valley College in Dixon, and also classes at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Illinois. Bill served in the United States Army in '62 and '63 as Special Forces Green Beret stationed in the Far East and the Golden Triangle. He married Jane D. Bowman on December 16, 1961 in Dixon, Illinois, and she is surviving. He began work with employment at various Grocery Chains in Illinois. They came to Monmouth in 1976 as the manager of the Eagle Food Store in Monmouth, which he managed here for many years. He was inducted into the Junior Achievement Hall of Fame for his work locally with the youth. His work and his family were his primary interests. He is survived by his wife, Jane of Monmouth, and two daughters, Alane Welbon of Bartow, Florida; and Jenny Hasting of Monmouth, Illinois. One son, Michael H. Osborn of Jacksonville, Illinois. Five grandchildren, Timothy, Nathan, Bradford, Nico, and Matthew Osborn. One brother, Richard P. Osborn of Peoria, Illinois is surviving. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son Billy, and his sister. Services:As per his wishes, William will be cremated and no visitation and or viewing is currently being planned by his family. A memorial fund is being established for the Warren County Library. Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements.
