William R. Smith, age 84, of Monmouth, passed away at 5:05 a.m., August 1, 2010 at the Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth. He was born on July 22, 1926 in Floyd Township, Warren County, Illinois. Bill is the son of Roscoe Charles and Gayle Dee Shelton Smith. He was reared and educated in Cameron and Monmouth, and attended Monmouth High School. Bill served in the United States Army from December 1944 to October 1946. He married Marjorie Reimolds on December 7, 1944 in Monmouth, she survives. Bill spent most of his life working as a brick mason for Jim Lipes and Bob West. He finally had his own business, Smith Masonry until his retirement. Bill enjoyed stock and sprint car racing, he especially liked watching his family participate in sporting events. He also liked hunting, fishing, and antiques. Surviving Bill are his children; Judy Hull of Monmouth, Rodney Smith (Debbie) of Monmouth, Kimberly Temple (Brian) of Los Alamos, N.M., and Tami Piacenza of Macomb, Ill. Grandchildren; Tracy Hull (Rhonda) of Cameron, Ill., Kristine Ischer (Richard) of Monmouth, Kara Peterson of Chicago, Cory Smith of Monmouth, Kiersten Temple, Connor Temple both of New Mexico, and Hannah Piacenza of Macomb, Ill. Also surviving are great grandchildren; Megan, Ryan, Renee, Aaron, Jeremy, and Nick. Great Great Grandchildren; Talan and Kylie. Sister, Betty Bertschi (Bill) of Hamilton, Ill., one brother Danny Smith (Sheila) of Hamilton, Ill., and special friend and Brother-In-Law Paul Reimolds. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dale, daughter Dee Ann and son-in-law Jerry Hull. Services:A memorial service with Military Honors will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Cremation has been accorded. A memorial fund is being established.
